Beauty In Being Still

Dear diary,

How important is rest? Well, it’s important enough that God devoted a whole day to resting in the beginning portion of the book of Genesis. But if we take the time to look deeper into our own lives, will we find ourselves rested? For me, the key to being rested in God is remaining still in him. Being still in knowing who God truly is in our lives permits us to take a step back and allow our minds to grasp him to be in full control. We can sometimes burn ourselves out when we try to be god (lower case 'g') over our own lives. But our heavenly father is so extraordinary that he can handle it all. There is no use in losing rest when God provides beauty in being still.

Why Are You Not Still?

Worry can be one of the main reasons we don’t allow our selves to rest. We can find our minds endlessly going and going and going, worrying about the next thing. But if we stop, pause, and be still…we can know that God already knew that what ever you’re going through was going to happen. If God is the beginning and the end, I promise you, He knows everything in between. I would much rather leave it to him than try to figure it out on my own.

"He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."

Psalm 46:10

What Does Being Still Look Like?

Depending on what your day-to-day looks like, being still will probably look like allowing your mind, soul, and spirit to rest in knowing that your Father is in control. Getting in the scripture, remaining in prayer, and staying in constant communion with the Lord settles us.

Are you worried that you won't have your needs met? Well, according to the Bible, all our needs will be met (Phil. 4:19 "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.") Are you anxious that you are alone? Along with talking with the Lord, the body of Christ is filled with all kinds of people to hang out with. (Duet. 31:8 "It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”) Are your haters plotting against you? Its all good because their plans will fail (Psalm 21:11 "Though they plot evil against you and devise wicked schemes, they cannot succeed.") God is in control of any and every situation.

".The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still."

Exodus 14:14

Leave Spiritual Restlessness Behind

If we don’t rest in stillness, we may leave room for spirits of anxiety, restlessness, and fear to dwell in our lives. As children of the most high God, there’s just no room for them in our walk with Christ. When you feel as though these things have crept their way in, it is important that you pray and come out of agreement with those spirits, and replace them with the word of God.

A little example of this could be “Lord I place my full trust in you. I come out of agreement with any fear that may have snuck its way into my life. Your word says that you have not given me the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and sound mind. So today I come in agreement with your word and receive the power, love, and sound mind that you have for me who trust in you. In your son Jesus Christ's name I pray, Amen”.

Implement the word of God in your life using the scripture below as a starting point.

"For I have given rest to the weary and joy to the sorrowing."

Jeremiah 31:25

It’s time to get your beauty sleep. Stop resisting the rest that God has for you. Because of Jesus, we have access to the true rest of God.

Lord, thank you that you grant us your perfect rest in you. I can't do life without you. Because you are who you are, I can safely and soundly cast all may worries, cares, and burdens on you. I give you all the glory and honor. Amen.
