Calling All Book Worms

Dear diary,

Can I let you in on a little secret? I love to read! And even more than reading is sharing the great books that have helped me along the way. Here are my top 3 books so far that have helped me in my walk with Christ.

More Than Pretty by Erica Campbell

This is for my God girls, who had to navigate the world while dodging beauty standards, double standards, and any other standard that just stood in the way of being the best versions of ourselves in Christ. More Than Pretty is a beautiful perspective on understanding and recognizing your worth in Christ. As women, our worth is more than just what society wants us to be. It’s about walking in your purpose and using our pain to paint a bigger, more beautiful picture. I read More Than Pretty during a time in my life when I was just tired of being described as “pretty” or the infamous "cute." I had a deep feeling that there was more to me than that. 'College me' needed that book, and looking back, I think it’s a great book for young women who are still discovering themselves and older women who have forgotten who they truly are.

"A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.."

Proverbs 31:10

Praying in the Names of God by Ann Spangler

Whew! When I tell you this devotional blew me away. This book is for all my God girls who want to dip their toes into the deeper facets of God. Ann Spangler breaks down what the Hebrew names of God are. We are able to see God as more than what we’ve made him to be in our heads and as what he is in our own personal lives. We see God as a father, protector, healer, banner, and so much more! Reading this book felt like I kept learning more and more about the God who knew me before I was formed in my mom’s womb. The more I read through the different names of God, the more I saw him in different aspects of my life. If you’re looking to understand God a little more, I would highly recommend this book for you!

"And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you"

Exodus 3:14

Sketches from Church History by S. M. Houghton

Ok, so this book is slightly different than the other two books mentioned above. Sketches from Church History is for my God girls out there who are secretly history nerds at heart. Think of this book as a Christ-centered history book (with pictures!). This book walks through the world immediately after Jesus’ time on earth. The Bible provides us with the New Testament but how did the world shift after that time? This book goes on to paint the picture for us. I think it’s cool to see how the gospel was preached in early times. It helped me connect certain parts of history that I may not have fully understood and explains them from the perspective of Christ. Sketches from Church History is a great opportunity to grow in knowledge of Christ in a historical context. Who wouldn’t want to feel like a historian?!"The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!"

" But these are written that you may believe[a] that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name."

John 20:31

The Bible is a great foundation to have in your walk with Christ. But as you are looking to add some supplemental reading to your collection, these books are a great start. In addition, for all my God girls that are new, there is a link to my book here: https://a.co/d/eOx1piy

Lord thank you for giving me resources that will help me grow. I pray that I am able to share my knowledge and wisdom that you have given me to the people around me. I give you all the glory and honor. Amen.
