Walking on Water
Dear diary,
We have all heard the story of Jesus and his disciple walking on water. It's a story told frequently in church that opens our hearts to the miraculous things that Jesus can do in our lives. If you haven't read it, I definitely encourage you to do so below. But if you have, I want to challenge you with this question: Have you applied this to your life and walked on water? If the answer is yes, then I am super happy for you, but most likely, if the answer is no, I want to break down whatever is hindering you from following the Lord in his footsteps (literally). God wants to reassure us that anything is possible with him. Let's dive deep into walking on our water.
Passage:
Understand What Your Water Is
First and foremost, I am not telling you to walk on physical water. In this case, I am referring to the storm in your life that is causing you to be in distress. Right before the miracle of walking on water had even occurred, the disciples were obeying God's instruction to go out to the other side of the lake when the waters got dangerously rough. Are you going through something that is causing you to panic or worry? Are you facing hardships in an area that God sent you to? Then that is your storm. Most likely, the emotions that you are facing are similar to what the disciples were facing in the physical storm on the boat.
Identifying your storm will help you better understand how to navigate it with Jesus, just as the disciples did. The people who were closest to Jesus faced storms. You are not in this alone. You are not the first to face them, and you definitely won't be the last. It was Jesus who calmed the storm. Rest in knowing that your Savior will not let you drown in the mission that he sent you on.
"Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves."
Matthew 14:22
Leave Your Boat Behind
In order to walk on water, it's going to take faith in Jesus. Walking on water is going to require you to leave your comfortable place of safety (i.e., the boat, which can represent your friend circles, your environment, etc.). In order to increase your capacity, you have to move by faith. Peter walked on water as an act of faith. If he had stayed on the boat, he may never have been known as the man who walked on water with Jesus. Every other miracle before him had people walking through water on dry land, but God did something new because of his faith to leave the boat. He didn't care what was in the boat; he knew that Jesus was calling out to him. He left his place of comfortability in faith to draw near to Jesus on water.
In order for God to help you walk on water, you have to be willing to be uncomfortable and leave your boat. Take a moment to ask yourself what God is calling you out of in order to draw him near to you?
"“Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus"
Matthew 14:29
You Will Not Drown
If God called you out of something and into him, do you really think that he is going to let you drown? Peter was walking on water until he began to focus on everything that wasn't Jesus. When he began to drown, Jesus was right there to pick him up. Jesus is always right there to pick us up. You will not drown in these situations if we keep our mind, will, and emotions focused on God. Peter learned a very valuable lesson that night, and I hope you will too. Once Jesus reached out and saved him, He calmed the storm, and the disciples acknowledged him as the son of God. Know that despite the storms in our lives, Jesus will always be our Lord and our Savior. He will not let you drown but will use your situation to reveal himself to others. Don't let your situation lead you to doubt God. Allow your situation to reveal him.
"Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?”"
Matthew 14:31
There are going to be storms. I can't deny that. But we will always have Jesus, who will not let us drown and who will draw us near to him in the middle of the storm. Keep your mind on Jesus, our savior. Whether that's in your boat or in the water, be wherever He is.
Lord, thank you for giving me the ability to walk on my waters. Help me to keep my eyes focused on you at all times. Wherever you are, there is safety and salvation. Fill me with faith. I give you all the glory and honor. Amen.
- xoxo God's Girl
