Worldwide Shortage of Compassion

Dear diary,

This week I noticed shortages, but not in the way you might immediately think of. I've unfortunately noticed a shortage of compassion among people.

This week I heard the news of a world-famous American football player announcing the finalization of his divorce. It happened to be Halloween weekend and as I was scrolling through Tiktok, I came across a video of a couple dressed up as the newly divorced couple who were mocking the split. Thousands of comments were laughing at the marriage and it honestly hurt my heart...

But I also immediately thought that I am called to be the salt of the earth. We should be seasoning this lack-luster world with compassion. Though the people around us may be lacking compassion, that does not mean that we should copy that behavior as well. We as Christians should be led to pray for people hurting. We should lend to people in need. We should be a helping hand to those whose lack.

Here are a few points that help us deal with these current shortages:

1. God is the father of compassion. We also need to imitate our Father and share in compassion as well.

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God."

2. We are not like everyone else. We are CHOSEN. As a chosen group of people, it is a must for us to show compassion for others. People should be able to see your compassion just as they see your clothes.

"Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience."

Colossians 3:12

3. Jesus saw where there was a lack of compassion and he aided to their side. Where do you see al lack of compassion around you? Can you intercede in prayer or offer help like Jesus did?

"When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd."

As Christians, we cannot sit still and let the enemy take away the supply of compassion in this world. We are vessels of God. From our storehouse, we should share in our abundance of compassion for the world. I know it may get discouraging to see a lack of compassion, but take heart and lean on the love of God to guide you.

God, I thank you that I have the opportunity to experience your compassion. May we not lack compassion in our lives. I pray that the compassion that I receive from you overflows from my heart to the people around me. Thank you, Lord. I give you all the glory and honor. Amen.
