Your Life Is a Best Seller
Dear diary,
I have been thinking a lot about my life lately, specifically my future. What I will be like, who I will meet, and what God wants me to do. With that, I've stumbled upon the border between curiosity and concern. But then the Lord brought to my remembrance that as I am walking with Him, He is writing my story with me. I was so worried about how my life was going to write itself that I forgot it was written by the best author. The moment I surrendered my life to God, my story changed for the better. Everything that we experience, whether big or small, is part of our story.
"You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed."
Psalm 139:16
A Good Book Needs Great Characters
The first thing we have to understand is that God, our author, uses us like characters. What do we do as characters? We answer when it's time for our lines. We follow the Holy Spirit in obedience. I struggle with this sometimes. I can be small-minded sometimes and forget that God is writing a bigger story. It's bigger than us. Our obedience to God is not for nothing. He's writing something that's sometimes too big for us to grasp. Don't delay your story line by ignoring the author. Pray that the Lord changes our hearts to listen and eagerly obey His word. There is nothing more draining than a book without a storyline. Those books become a waste of space on a dusty shelf. God wants more for us than that. He wants our story to edify others, lead people to Jesus, our Lord and Savior, and glorify Him.
"Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him."
Psalm 128:1
Our Story Is Not Just For Ourselves
Believe it or not, our story is not just for ourselves. It's for others too. Let's say you go through an undeniably difficult season in your life. When God gets you through that, you now have the ability to help other people who may be going through a similar experience. You know how to navigate the trials and emotions that came with that situation. Others are able to read the already written parts of your book to help them get through a chapter in theirs. The best part of this all is that God gets all the glory in all of this!
Take Job, for example. Job didn't know exactly why he lost all his children, wealth, and health. Of course, God was showing the devil that Job was a faithful servant even while losing everything, but Job didn't know that at the time that happened. What we do know is that thousands of years later, the story of Job stands as a testament that even in the valley of the shadow of death, God is faithful. Only God knows exactly how many people benefited from that chapter of Job's life.
"Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."
Galatians 6:2
Let Go and Let God
This is really an honest conversation about control. A lot of times, we want to be in control of every aspect of our lives and may become too afraid to leave it in the hands of someone who is not our own. But trusting God with your future is the best favor you can do for yourself. His wisdom is above and beyond anything we can wrap our minds around. Let go of the control that your flesh desires and let God do a work in you. A work that Christ Jesus already began. Assuming that you're Christian, you've already trusted God with your soul; why not the other aspects of your life? Let go and let God.
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Jeremiah 29:11
Today, choose what your story will say. Will it mostly glorify what the enemy did in your life, or will it glorify how God moved miraculously in impossible situations? Don't let the enemy's distractions get a main character role in your story. Let your life be a testimony of the Lord Jesus to the glory of the Father.
Lord, thank you that I can trust you with my life. You know my beginning from my end. May everything in between the pages give you glory and be a testimony to your faithfulness. I give you all the glory and honor. Amen.
- xoxo God's Girl
